The Cordova Blue Devils saw their state tournament hopes dashed in the Class 4A East Regional in Albertville on Friday, while at the North Regional in Florence, the Jasper Vikings and the Curry Yellow Jackets received an unscheduled break from the action, postponement to their portion of the tournament and an unexpected change of venue for Saturday.
Cordova began the day in the Runner-up Bracket and recorded an early morning victory over North Jackson, 10-2, but fell to Cherokee Co, 7-4 in the next round to end their 2023 campaign.
In Florence, what was set to be an early start for Jasper and Curry at 9 a.m. turned into delay after delay until the AHSAA decided to cancel the day’s games and reschedule all of Friday’s slate to Saturday in Albertville, the field conditions at the Sportsplex in Florence made a change of venue necessary.
Both Curry and Jasper will start Saturday’s games at 11 a.m., Curry facing Brooks in the Class 4A Region Championship game, while Jasper takes on Hayden in the Class 5A Runner-up Bracket Second round.
