Jasper’s Sargent, Meek’s Deaver named Week 1 Players of the Week

Week 1 of Prep Football Season 2022 in the Wal-Win area is in the books and there were many great performances that stood out in the opening game action.

The Jasper Vikings’ Cole Sargent had a tremendous game on defense, recording 11 tackles with a tackle for a loss and also blocked a kick on Friday against Center Point to be named the Southeast Hospice/WJLX Player of the Week for Jasper.

Meek’s Cam Deaver rushed for 295 yards on 34 carries with four touchdowns in the Tigers’ smashing 36-12 victory over perennial powerhouse Maplesville Friday night, earning him the Southeast Hospice/WJLX Player of the Week honors for the Wal-Win area.

Both players will be interviewed and awarded plaques in recognition of their performances.

Garrett Busby: Three receptions for 72 yards and a touchdown

Meek:
Blake Miller: 23 carries for 108 yards with a touchdown

Oakman:
Trace Cagle: Completed 6 of 12 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown, rushed for 48 yards on 11 carries; 123 all-purpose yards

Declyn Morgan: 22 carries for 138 rushing yards with two touchdowns
