Bevill State Community College and WJLX 101.5 FM have announced a new partnership for broadcasts of the Bears’ basketball and softball contests beginning with the 2021-22 season.
In addition to the audio broadcasts of the Bears’ basketball and softball contests, WJLX will also regularly produce video content featuring coach and player interviews, as well as assisting Bevill State with various promotions throughout the season beginning with basketball.
Dr. Joel Hagood, president of Bevill State Community College, stated the presentation of the games will allow supporters the opportunity to keep up with the team throughout the season.
“I am excited that Bevill State Basketball will be resuming radio broadcasts with WJLX this upcoming season. This, in addition to the livestreaming of the games, will allow fans throughout the service area to catch any home games they may not be able to attend. Plus, Bevill State Softball will be covered as well. This is wonderful for the fans. I expect both teams to have a great year. Go Bears!” Dr. Hagood said.
WJLX general manager Brett Elmore said the airing of the games continues a long tradition enjoyed by the radio station and fans of Bevill State.
“It’s a great honor to once again have the privilege of airing Bevill State athletics, our entire staff are elated to bring the Bears’ fans and supporters all the action. Bevill State Community College is such an incredible and special part of our community — the athletes that represent Bevill are also an extension of the community and we all want to share in their success. Bevill State / Walker College basketball has been a fixture on local radio dating back to the 1960s with Coach Clem. We have travelled all over Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Missouri and North Carolina,” Elmore said. “Bevill State Basketball made great progress last season under coach Kelly Cheatham, progress we feel that will translate into a great year in 2021-22. With Chris Harris, a former state championship coach at Parrish who is well-known and respected throughout our area, now at the head of the softball program, we expect the Bears to quickly establish themselves as one of the top teams in the state.”
The Bears’ Basketball team will begin preseason play in October before hosting their first game of the season on Oct. 27 against the Stillman junior varsity.
