WALKER COUNTY, Ala. (WJLX) — Dangerous heat will continue across Walker County through at least Saturday, with heat index values expected to reach between 105 and 108 degrees during the afternoon hours.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has a Heat Advisory in effect through 8 p.m. Saturday for Walker County and much of central Alabama.
Forecasters said temperatures will continue climbing into the mid- and upper 90s over the next several days as a strong area of high pressure remains in place over the region.
The heat will be the dominant weather story through much of next week, according to the National Weather Service. Rain chances are expected to remain limited through the workweek, though a weak disturbance moving in from the Gulf could bring some increased rain chances over the weekend.
By Sunday, rain chances could increase to between 20% and 30% as the area of high pressure shifts west. However, the relief may be short-lived.
The National Weather Service said another shift in the weather pattern could allow high temperatures to rebound next week, potentially leading to additional Heat Advisories into next weekend.
Walker County residents are urged to take precautions during the extreme heat, including drinking plenty of water, limiting strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day and checking on vulnerable family members and neighbors.
