Three WJLX area teams advance to state tournament

The Curry Yellow Jackets and the Oakman Wildcats when undefeated through the AHSAA North Regional in Florence, while the Carbon Hill Bulldogs staved-off elimination and captured a runner-up spot — all of which will compete in next week’s state tournament in Oxford.

Top-ranked Curry earned it first Class 4A regional championship under coach Dave Lawson after defeating No. 5 Brooks in the title game. The Yellow Jackets begin state tournament play on Thursday.

Class 3A, Area 10 ruled the regional, with the Oakman Wildcats beating Lauderdale County to capture the championship. Carbon Hill avenged its Tuesday loss to Lauderdale County with a win on Wednesday to wrap-up the second-seed. Both teams open state tournament play on Tuesday.


Class 4A

North Regional Championship

No.  1 Curry 5, Brooks 2

Ella Wright got the seven-inning victory, giving up four hits and two un-earned runs.

At the plate, Ambrey Taylor went 2 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, Linley Tubbs was 2 for 3 with a run scored, Laney West went 2 for 4 with an RBI and Alayna Key recorded a hit with a run scored as the at-bat leaders.


Class 3A

North Regional Championship

Oakman 3, Lauderdale Co. 1

Missy Odom got the seven-inning victory, giving up three hits and an earned run with 15 strikeouts.

Offensively, Savannah Brown went 3 for 3 with two runs scored, Ashanti Stewart hit a double with a run scored and an RBI, Odom had a hit with an RBI and Jessy Aston recorded a hit with an RBI as the at-bat leaders.

 

Runner-up game

Carbon Hill 12, Lauderdale Co. 2

Haleigh Lamon got the six-inning win, giving up eight hits and two earned runs with two strikeouts.

At the plate, Ana Guy went 4 for 4 with a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs, Ella Hyde was 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI, Brittany Parker went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and Alleigh Keeton had a hit with three runs scored and an RBI as the at-bat leaders.
