The Bevill State Bears’ defense stepped-up in Friday night’s 86-82 win over the red-hot, three-point shooting of the Enterprise State Boll Weevils at Glen Clem Gymnasium.
Jervae Peters led the Bears with 28 points and six rebounds, including hitting eight of nine shots from the free throw line. Carterius Evans recorded a double-double of 21 points, 19 rebounds and two blocks, while Jordan Bell had 19 points, seven rebounds and four blocks.
Bevill State held a sizable lead in team rebounds, with 52 boards to Enterprise State’s 23.
The Bears led by as much as 27 points in the first half before the Boll Weevils caught fire from three-point territory, leaving Bevill State holding a four-point edge at halftime, 47-43.
Bevill State made adjustments in the second half to counter the Enterprise State three-point shooting, with Peters making the vital baskets at the free throw line in the final minutes to earn the Bears the 86-82 win.
The Bears travel to Hanceville on Monday to face the Wallace State Lions at 7 p.m.
