Oakman’s playoff run ends with loss to Saks

The Oakman Wildcats’ season came to an end on Friday night following a 36-22 loss to the Saks Wildcats in Anniston.

Kaedyn Marchbanks led the Oakman offense with 178 all-purpose yards — rushing for 127 yards on 14 carries with two touchdowns, while catching two passes for 49 yards. Bubba Odom passed for 93 yards on 5 of 10 passes with a touchdown and an interception, allowing him to pass the 2,000-yard mark for the season.

Defensively, A.J. Odom led Oakman with 12 tackles including two tackles for a loss.

Oakman opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 35-yard run by Marchbanks to go on top, 7-0.

Saks answered with a two-yard scoring run, but the two point conversion failed, leaving Oakman ahead 7-6.

Marchbanks struck again near the end of the quarter on a 58-yard tun for the touchdown to maintain the Oakman lead, 14-6.

Saks scored two touchdowns and converted two points to end the first half in command, 22-14.

After Saks scored a third quarter touchdown and converted two points, Jy Henderson scored on a seven-yard run, then followed with a run for the two-point conversion to pull Oakman within eight, 30-22.

Saks added to the score in the fourth quarter on a six-yard run, but failed on the two-point conversion for the 36-22 final.

Oakman finished the season with a 9-3 record in head coach Ryan Hall’s third season. 2021 saw the Wildcats finish second Class 3A, Region 6, extend their playoff streak to 11-consecutive appearance and made the second round for the first time since 2017.
