The Bevill State Bears gave No. 17 Shelton State all it could handle on Monday night, with the Bucs escaping with a 71-66 win at Glen Clem Gymnasium.
Jervae Peters led the Bears with 15 points, with Skylar Hice adding 13 points. Cornelius Grant had nine points and Cam Scott scored seven points with seven rebounds.
The Bucs posted a 33-23 lead at halftime, but the Bears battled back in the second half and were able to close to within a point, 67-66, before Shelton State came up with clutch free throws for the win.
