The Bevill State Bears’ Wednesday night contest with the nation’s 12th ranked team, Shelton State, nearly handed the Bucs their first loss of the season in ACCC play. Up by a point, 85-84 with 12 seconds left in regulation, the Bucs scored five points on free throws to clinch a 89-84 win in Tuscaloosa.
Jervae Peters had another outstanding performance, leading the Bears with 29 points, while Carterius Evans recorded his third-consecutive double-double of 24 points, 13 rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Jordan Bell added eight points with two blocks, CJ Beckham had seven points and three steals and Cam Scott scored seven points.
Bevill State led by as many as nine points in the first half before Shelton State rallied and held a 44-41 lead with less than one second left in the first half. Maurice Johnson sank three-straight free throws to tie the contest at 44-44 at the break.
