Cam Deaver scored on a four-yard touchdown run on the final play of regulation to allow the Meek Tigers to post a 22-20 victory over the Sumiton Christian Eagles on Friday night in Arley.
Matthew Clark led Meek with 27 carries for 157 yards with a touchdown, while Deaver added 35 yards on seven carries with two scores.
For Sumiton Christian, Jordan Robertson completed 10 of 19 passes for 143 yards with two touchdowns. Kannen Defoor caught three passes for 72 yards with a touchdown.
The Tigers opened the scoring late in the first quarter following a three-play, 39-yard drive, with Clark earning the touchdown on a four-yard run. Deaver ran for two points to put Meek ahead, 8-0.
The Eagles tied the game in the second quarter on an eight-play, 37-yard drive, ending on a 24-yard touchdown strike from Robertson to Ashton McClendon. Jack Gable converted two points to notch the contest at 8-8 at halftime.
Sumiton Christian took command in the third quarter following a nine-play, 54-yard drive, capped by a 17-yard run by Defoor. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful, giving the Eagles a 14-8 lead.
Meek responded in the fourth quarter after Deaver scored on a three-yard run to end a four-play, 37-yard drive. Deaver converted the two-point conversion on a run, putting the Tigers back on top, 16-14.
The Eagles answered on a four-play, 82-yard drive, with the Robertson to Defoor combination teaming-up for a 28-yard scoring strike. The two-point conversion failed, but Sumiton Christian held the advantage, 20-16.
With three minutes left in the game, Meek went on a 10-play, 56-yard drive, setting-up Deaver’s game-winning run and the 22-20 win.
Both teams open the first round of the playoff next week, as Meek travels to R.A. Hubbard and Sumiton Christian playing hosting Winterboro.
