Two area wrestlers won their first AHSAA State Title on Saturday, solidifying a season-long journey with championship gold.
Jasper’s Cole Carter won the Class 5-6A 195 lbs. title by 8-2 decision. The sophomore ends the season with a 66-2 record, also having won the North Super Sectional title last weekend, as well as several tournament championship during the year.
Dora’s Jonathan Foster captured the Class 1-4A 170 lbs. championship by pinfall at the 2:38 mark in the title match. The junior ends the season at 45-9, was the North Super Sectional champion and had two in-season tournament championships.
The Vikings finished in 6th place overall with 87 points. Colin Langley (285 lbs.) finished in 3rd place, Preston Reed (160 lbs.) finished in 4th place and both Ethan Caldwell (120 lbs.) and Cooper Brooks (138 lbs.) had 6th place finishes.
The Bulldogs finished tied for 7th place with 45 points. Damon Clayton finished in 3rd place in the 126 lbs. weight class.
