The Bevill State Bears’ CJ Beckham grabbed a clutch rebounds as time expired to help preserve a 58-57 victory over the MMI Tigers on Thursday night at Glen Clem Gym and record their first win in ACC play on the season.
Carterius Evan earned Player of the Game honors with 20 points, nine rebounds, four blocks and two steals. Skylar Hice had 11 points, RJ Stevens scored 10 points with three blocks and Beckham had eight points and 11 rebounds.
With both defenses controlling the first half, the Tigers went into halftime ahead 24-20.
After several lead changes in the second half, Bevill State took a one-point lead with 16 seconds left in regulation and turned away the final MMI shot to prevail, 58-57.
The Bears host Wallace State-Hanceville on Monday.
