The Bevill State Bears eclipsed two landmarks in the history of its softball program on Tuesday — winning the first conference series after splitting a game each with the Southern Union Bison and recording the most victories in a season at 13.
The Bison won Game 1, 7-1, with Santana Clark pitching five innings, recording two strikeouts. Katelyn Makemson pitched two innings, giving up a hit with two strikeouts.
At the plate, Brentli Champion, Catherine Hickey, Savannah Neely and Katie Puckett each hit a double with Puckett scoring a run and Magen Caro had an RBI.
Hannah Payne pitched four innings in the Game 2, 8-7 win for the Bears, recording two strikeouts. Makemson pitched three innings, giving up three hits with six strikeouts.
Offensively, Puckett went 3 for 4 with a double, a run scored and three RBIs, Champion was 2 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and hit the game-winning, seventh-inning walk-off and Neely hit a triple with a run scored and two RBIs as the at-bat leaders.
