Despite outscoring the opposition 45-36 in the second half, the Bevill State Bears came up short against the South Georgia Tech College Jets, 84-71, on Wednesday to open the Veterans Day Classic at Shelton State in Tuscaloosa.
Carterius Evans led Bevill State with 15 points and six rebounds, while Maurice Johnson had 14 points. Jervae Peters added 12 points with five steals, C.J. Beckham scored 12 points with two steals and Jordan Bell scored 11 points with seven rebounds with two steals and a rebound to earn Player of the Game honors.
The Jets led 46-26 at the half and secured the 84-71 final.
The Bears will play East Georgia State on Thursday at 3 p.m. for Day 2 of the Veterans Classic.
