BIRMINGHAM – Addison High School’s Lady Bulldogs posted a 25-17, 25-17, 25-19 victory over defending Orange Beach High School Wednesday at Bill Harris Arena to claim the school’s 13th state title at the AHSAA 51st State Volleyball Championships. The Makos were playing in their first final.
The Bulldogs (48-6) of Coach Kaydi Woodard were paced by senior Addisyn Smothers, who delivered 20 kills and added eight digs to earn MVP honors for the second year in a row. Dacey Baker had seven kills, setter Gracie Manley dished out 34 assists and Hadley Butler had 12 digs.
Orange Beach (30-17), coached Jackie Arnold, was led by Hannah Marsh, who had 11 kills and nine digs, Ensley Keel with 25 assists and eight digs, Amelia Edgeworth with six kills and eight digs. She also had two service aces.
The AHSAA State Tourney continues today with the Class 6A finals featuring defending state champion Mountain Brook and St. Paul’s Episcopal at noon; the Class 5A state finals between Bayside Academy and East Limestone at 2:30 p.m.; and Montgomery Catholic vs. Trinity Presbyterian in the 3A finals at 4:30.
Classes 1A, 4A and 7A are playing their quarterfinals and semifinals Wednesday at the adjoining CrossPlex. All matches in both arenas are being live-streamed over the NFHS Network. Go to www.nfhsnetwork.com for more information on how to access the live-streams.
