The Addison Bulldogs (47-6) were flawless to open up the Class 2A AHSAA State Tournament on Tuesday, beating Washington County 3-0 in the quarterfinals and Sand Rock 3-0 in the semifinals, setting-up Wednesday’s state championship match against Orange Beach(18-9).
Addisyn Smothers led the Bulldogs against Sand Rock with 13 kills and five digs in the semifinal win, while Abby Waldrop added 10 kills and three blocks. Gracie Manley contributed 40 assists, nine digs, four kills and three blocks. Dacey Baker had eight kills and five blocks.
The Bulldogs are in pursuit of their 13th state title and currently rank fourth among all classifications in championships.
Orange Beach, the top seed from the South Regional, beat Spring Garden 3-2 in the quarterfinals on Tuesday and Hatton 3-1 to advance.
The teams will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Birmingham Crossplex’s Bill Harris Arena for the championship.
