Curry bests Good Hope in semifinal, championship game
The Yellow Jackets posted dual 15-0, three-inning shutouts to win the area title and top seed to next week’s Region Tournament in Florence.
In the semifinal, Alena Howse gave up one hit in the three-inning shutout, striking out five batters.
At the plate, Alayna Key went 3 for 3 with three runs scored, Linley Tubbs was 2 for 2 with a homerun, a double, three runs scored and four RBIs and Kylee Trotter went 2 for 2 with two runs scored and three RBIs as the at-bat leaders.
Ella Wright pitched three perfect innings in the championship game, striking out three batters.
Offensively, Trotter went 3 for 3 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs, Tubbs was 2 for 3 with a double, a homerun, two runs scored and three RBIs, Lanie West went 2 for 3 with a homerun and two RBIs, Key was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and Reese Miller hit a double with a run scored and an RBI as the at-bat leaders.
Class 3A, Area 10
Carbon Hill wins semifinal, championship games over Oakman
The Bulldogs won the semifinal game, 2-1, with Haleigh Lamon pitching seven innings, giving up five hits and a run, with eight strikeouts.
At the plate for Carbon Hill, Kalee Edwards went 2 for 2, Raelea Guy recorded a hit with a run scored, Brittany Parker and Reese Tittle both had a hit and Brooke Basenburg scored a run.
Jessy Aston pitched six innings for Oakman, giving up six hits and an earned run, striking out six batters.
Offensively for the Wildcats, Ashanti Stewart went 3 for 3, Alyssa Lawhorn had a hit with a run scored and Jade Bonner drove-in a run on a hit.
Carbon Hill won the title game, 6-1, with Lamon pitching seven innings, giving up three hits and a run, with seven strikeouts.
At the plate for the Bulldogs, Ana Guy went 3 for 4 with an RBI, Edwards was 2 for 3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI and Alleigh Keeton had a hit with two RBIs as the at-bat leaders.
Missy Odom pitched six innings for Oakman, giving up seven hits and an earned run, with 11 strikeouts.
Offensively for the Wildcats, Stewart, Carly Woods and Bella Burkett recorded a hit and Savannah Brown scored a run.
Both Carbon Hill and Oakman advance to next week’s Region Tournament in Florence.
Class 2A, Area 10
Sumiton Christian advances to tournament final
The Eagles opened the tournament with a 9-5 win over Cold Springs, with Alison Kelly pitching seven innings, striking out 11 batters.
At the plate, Kelly went 3 for 4 with two runs scored, Izzy Ingle was 2 for 4 with a triple and a run scored, Ashlynn Corley went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI and Maddie McCrary recorded a hit with a run scored and two RBIs as the at-bat leaders.
Sumiton Christian defeated Winston County, 6-2 in the semifinal, with Kalista Cornelison pitching seven innings, giving up four hits and an earned run, with four strikeouts.
At the plate, Kelly went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI, Ingle was 2 for 3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI and BG Braswell went 2 for 3 with an RBI as the at-bat leaders.
The Eagles will play in the championship game on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
Class 1A, Area 12
Lynn finishes as the area runner-up, advances to the Regional Tournament in Florence. Meek was eliminated.
