The Class 4A, top-ranked Curry Yellow Jackets traveled to Hoover on Wednesday, where they defeated Class 7A, No. 9 Bucs, 11-9.
Alena Howse got the win, pitching three innings with three hits and no earned runs, striking out a batter. Ella Wright pitched four innings, giving up six hits, an earned run and recording four strikeouts.
At the plate, Linley Tubbs went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI, Alayna Key was 2 for 4 with three runs scored, Ambrey Taylor went 2 for 4 with a triple, three runs scored and three RBIs and Kaylee Trotter hit a homerun with two runs scored and four RBIs.
Sumiton Christian 9, Winston Co. 3
Kalista Cornelison pitched seven innings in the win for Sumiton Christian, giving up six hits and two earned runs with five strikeouts.
At the plate, BG Braswell went 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI, Izzy Ingle and Maddie McCrary were both 2 for 3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI and Alison Kelly went 2 for 4 with a triple, a run scored and three RBIs at-bat leaders.
Haylee Gilliand pitched four and one-third innings for Winston Co., while Edgil pitched two and two-thirds innings with a strikeout.
Offensive for the Yellow Jackets, Olivia Harper went 2 for 3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI and Chasty Garrison had a double with a run scored as the at-bat leaders.
