Yellow Jackets overcome loss to advance at state

The Curry Yellow Jackets staved-off elimination in a first-round championship bracket loss by winning back-to-back elimination bracket games to remain in contention for a spot in Wednesday’s Championship Final.

First up for the Yellow Jackets is a rematch with North Region Championship game against Brooks, who bested Curry 2-0 to claim the top state seed in Florence. Brooks lost in the championship bracket first round to Northside, 3-2.

Curry and Brooks meet at 9 a.m., with a berth in the elimination bracket final on the line.

Championship Bracket 1st Round

Prattville Christian 7, Curry 3

Alena Howse pitched five and two-thirds innings, giving up seven hits, five earned runs and three walks. Skiely Perry pitched one-third inning. At the plate, Jenna Madison hit a three-run homerun, Taylor Mancone hit a double and Aubrey Lackey had a hit with a run scored.

Elmination Bracket 1st Round

Curry 12, White Plains 2 (Five innings)

Perry pitched five innings in the win, giving up two hits, two earned runs and five walks with 10 strikeouts. Offensively, Ambrey Taylor went 2 for 2, both triples, with two RBIs abd three runs scored, Ivee Kelley was 4 for 4, with four RBIs, Ansley Brown went 2 for 3 with three run scored, Jenna Madison was 2 for 4, including a double, with three RBIs and two runs scored and Lanie West had a hit with an RBI.

Elmination Bracket 2nd Round

Curry 8, Northside 4

Perry pitched four innings, giving up two hits, no earned runs, three walks and striking out three batters. Howse pitched three innings, giving up five hits, four earned runs, a walk and striking out two batters. At the plate, Madison went 3 for 3, including a double and a triple, three runs scored and an RBI, Taylor was 3 for 4, including a double and a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored, Brown went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and West drove-in a run on a hit.
