17 qualifiers will head to the AHSAA State Wrestling Championships next weekend after the Jasper Vikings and Dora Bulldogs had spectacular performances in the North Super Section tournament at Birmingham’s Crossplex.
The Vikings qualified nine team members and finished in first place with 196 points as Section champions. Ethan Caldwell (132 lbs.), defending state champion Cole Carter (195 lbs.) and Colin Langley (285 lbs.) all finished as top qualifiers for the state tournament, with Kortez Samuels (113 lbs.), Antonio Nash (126 lbs.), Luke Horsely (170 lbs.) and Jamie Burnam (182 lbs.) finishing in second place. Garrett Caldwell (145 lbs.) and Carter Reed (160 lbs.) locked-up third place finishes.
The Dora Bulldogs ended their two-day Super Section campaign with a third place finish with 146 points and eight qualifiers. Damon Clayton (132 lbs.) and defending state champion Neil Foster (182 lbs.) are both top qualifiers, followed by a second place finish by Jayden Rouse (120 lbs.), Delvin Taylor (160 lbs.) coming in third and Connor Roberts (145 lbs.), Aiden Richardson (170 lbs.), Cameron Richardson (195 lbs.) and Cameron Gosha (220 lbs.) all placing sixth.
Both programs won Dual State Championships in January.
