The Jasper and Dora wrestling were heavily involved in action during the week, with the Vikings going 1-1 in a tri match at Corner, 2-0 in a tri match at McAdory and having several wrestlers place at the Spartan Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Bulldogs went 2-0 during a tri match at Montevallo and 3-0 in a quad match at Hueytown.
Jasper opened Tuesday with a 42-37 loss to Corner, with Kortez Samuels(113 lbs.), Cooper Brooks(138 lbs.), Garrett Caldwell(145 lbs.), Carter Reed(160 lbs.) and Colin Langley(285 lbs.) all winning by pinfall, Leo Garcia(106 lbs.) had a 14-7 decision victory and Antonio Nash(132 lbs.) won by 15-3 major decision. The Vikings followed with a 66-18 win over Springville. Samuels, Ethan Cummings(120 lbs.), Nash, Brooks, Caldwell, Reed and Langley all won by pinfall.
At Thursday’s tri match, the Vikings opened with a 53-18 loss to McAdory. Samuels won by 8-4 decision, Owen Bankston(126 lbs.) won via 12-11 decision and Brooks scored a pinfall victory. Jasper rebounded with a 42-36 win over Pell City. Samuels, Reed, Jamie Burnam(182 lbs.) and Langley won by pinfall, Cummings won by 7-0 decision, Nash scored a 16-3 major decision win and Ethan Caldwell won by technical fall.
At the Spartan Invitational, Samuels, Caldwell and Burnam finished as runner-ups, Nash, Brooks and Reed earned third-place finishes and Luke Horsely(170 lbs.) finished in fourth place.
In Dora’s Tuesday tri match at Montevallo, the Bulldogs opened with a 70-12 win over ACA. Jamell Saxton(120 lbs.), Jayden Rouse(126 lbs.), Damon Clayton(138 lbs.), Connor Roberts(145 lbs.), Ashton Gilmore-Smith(152 lbs.), Aiden Richardson(170 lbs.), Neil Foster(195 lbs.), Cameron Richardson(220 lbs.) and Jonathan Creel(285 lbs.) all won by pinfall and Delvin Taylor(160 lbs.) won by 15-4 major decision. Dora followed with a 51-24 win over Montevallo. Clayton, Richardson, N. Foster, John Hart(195 lbs.) and Asa Robinson(220 lbs.) all won by pinfall and J. Foster, Taylor and Richardson all won by decision.
Dora opened Thursday’s quad match with a 57-24 win over Brookwood. Rouse, J. Foster, Roberts, Taylor, A. Richardson, N. Foster, Creel and Grady Goodwin all won by pinfall and C. Richardson won via 8-5 decision. The Bulldogs then beat John Carroll, 66-18, with Rouse, J. Foster, Roberts, Ezrick Talley(145 lbs.), Taylor, A. Richardson, N. Foster, C. Richardson and Creel all winning by pinfall. Dora ended the day with a 60-16 win over Hueytown. Rouse, Roberts and Kaleb Pryor(152 lbs.) all won by pinfall.
Jasper and Dora will face-off on Monday.
