North Region Softball: Jasper, Curry join Sumiton Christian with state bids

The Jasper Vikings and the Curry Yellow Jackets recovered from loses in the North Region Tournament to secure runner-up bids on Friday to the state tournament next week in Oxford for their classification.

Jasper defeated top-ranked Springville in a rematch orginally played in the Championship Bracket, this time in the Class 5A Runner-up Bracket and the Vikings on top, 3-1. It was Jasper third consecutive win of the day, with the Vikings starting Friday beating Hayden 4-0, then Lawrence Co., 8-1.

Curry suffered a loss to No. 6 Brooks in the Class 4A Championship Game, 2-0, but rebounded with a 9-3 win over West Limestone, to clinch the Runner-up spot for the return to Oxford, where Curry won its most recent state championship last season.

Jasper and Curry join Sumiton Christian making trip to Oxford next week.

Class 5A :

Runner-up Final

Jasper 3, Springville 1

Missy Odom pitched seven innings in the victory for the Vikings, giving up five hits, one earned run, a walk with three strikeouts. At the plate, Odom went 2 for 3 including a triple and a run scored, Emma Franks hit a double with an RBI, Brinlee Clark drove-in a run on a hit and Lilly Banks recorded an RBI.

Runner-up 3rd Round

Jasper 8, Lawrence Co. 1

Odom pitched six inning for the win, giving up two hits, no earned runs with 10 strikeouts. Banks pitched an inning giving up two hits. Offensively, Odom went 2 for 4 including a triple with two RBIs, Ashlyn Tucker had a three-run triple and Banks had a hit with two runs scored.

Runner-up 2nd Round

Jasper 4, Hayden 0

Odom gave up three hits in the seven-inning shutout, with a walk and eight strikeouts. At the plate, Odoms hit a one-run triple with a run scored, Abrams had a triple with a run scored, Banks drove-in a run on a hit and scored a run and Clark had a hit with an RBI.

 

Class 4A:

Runner-up Final

Curry 9, West Limestone 3

Alena Howse pitched seven shutout innings, giving up two hits and striking out six batters in the win. Offensively, Ambrey Taylor went 3 for 4 including two triples, three runs scored and an RBI, Jenna Madison was 2 for 4 including a homerun, two runs scored and two RBIs, Kaydence Hutchison went 2 for 3 with an RBI, Shileigh Williams was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored, Ansley Brown went 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI and Ivee Kelley recorded a hit with an RBI.

Championship Final

Brooks 2, Curry 0

Skiely Perry pitched nine inning, giving up five hits, two earned runs, three walks and seven strikeouts. At the plate, Taylor hit a triple, and Brown, Hutchison and Lackey had a hit each.
