The Bevill State Bears grabbed a come-from-behind victory over the Calhoun Warhawks in Game 1 of Saturday’s road series to win 9-4, but fell in Game 2, 10-5, splitting the stand and giving Calhoun the series edge, 3-1.
In Game 1, a two-run homerun by Katie Puckett and a three-run double by Savannah Neely in the top of the eighth inning helped break a 4-4 tie and secure the Bears’ victory. Katelyn Makemson pitched eight innings in the win, giving up eight hits, two earned runs and a walk, striking out nine batters. Santana Clark and a Kyla Edmondson shared time in the circle. At the plate, AK Tyree went 3 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, Puckett was 2 for 3 with the two-run homerun, Skylar Black went 2 for 3 with a run scored and Addison Rose had a hit with an RBI.
In Game 2, Kyla Edmondson pitched two and two-thirds innings, giving up six hits, four earned runs and two walks with two strikeouts. Emma Black pitched two and one-third inning, giving up two hits and an earned run with a strikeout. Santana Clark, Jessy Aston and Katelyn Makemson shared time in the circle. Offensively, Addison Rose went 3 for 4 with a homerun, four RBIs and a run scored, Rachel Whitmer was 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored, Santana Clark went 2 for 5 with a run scored and AK Tyree hit a double with a run scored.
