Remodeled Clem is perfect for new era of Bevill Athletics

SHARE NOW

Since Bevill State Bears Basketball was re-started in 2017, one key component was missing to certify the return of the legendary program: A new look for Glen Clem Memorial Gymnasium.

While many of Bevill State’s other athletic programs have seen either an upgrade, or have welcomed new facilities as new eras have been begun, the old Clem looked often like a relic of a bygone time instead of a dedicated sports arena named after the father of Alabama junior college basketball.

And similar to how Coach Clem changed the narrative on the game of basketball in the junior college ranks, the new-look Clem Gymnasium blends some of the appeal of the former facility’s look with modern amenities to transform the home of Bevill State Bears Basketball into one of the top venues in the state.

For long-time fans of Bears Basketball, a short trip in the lobby will bring back familiar memories of yesteryear – from some of Coach Clem’s championship squads to recent players who are currently playing professionally, many of which are on display in a photographic mural in an entrance to the court.

The court area itself is breathtaking – new scoreboards, jumbotron, an enhanced sound system and the playing surface itself highlight many of the features await Bears fans at the Clem, all of which lend to an atmosphere that enhances the gameday experience.

While the Bears are on the road for the remainder of the month of January, there are four opportunities to catch the Bears in action at the revamped Clem in February, beginning with the Feb. 3 game against Reid State. The best part? Thanks to the wonderful sponsorship from Pinnacle Bank, admission this basketball season to all home games are free.

And don’t forget to check the WJLX Facebook page, Instagram and X for updates – including special player interviews we conduct on each gameday. The entire WJLX staff have enjoyed hosting Dayton Richardson and Elijah Herron, along with team sponsor Tiffany Higgins on the Woody Wilson Show on gamedays and look forward to getting to know more of the Bears in February.
