The Bevill State Bears split Monday’s rescheduled road series with Northwest Shoals, winning Game 1, 8-5 and losing Game 2, 9-7.
Down 4-3 going into the top of the sixth inning, the Bears scored five runs in the sixth and seventh innings, thanks to RBI hits by Catherine hickey and Santana Clark, along with a two-run homerun by Carlie Burnham to win Game 1. Clark pitched five innings, giving up five hits and three earned runs, striking out three batters. Katelyn Makemson pitched one and two-thirds innings, giving up a hit and an earned run with a strikeout. At the plate, AK Tyree went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored, Savannah Neely hit a two-run double and Burnham had a three-run homerun.
Jessy Aston pitched two and two-thirds inning in Game 2, allowing two earned runs and a walk with a strikeout. Katelyn Makemson pitched two and one-thirds innings, with two earned runs and a a walk. Kyla Edmondson pitched one and a third innings with a strikeout. Offensively, AK Tyree went 3 for 4 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored, Katie Puckett was 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored and Ansley Laye and Isabelle Santos both had a double with an RBI and a run scored.
