The Bevill State Bears split Wednesday’s home stand against the Bishop State Wildcats on Wednesday in Sumiton, winning Game 1, 9-8 and falling in Game 2, 13-12.
After the Wilcats took the lead in the top of the sixth inning in Game 1 following a five-run surge, 8-7, AK Tyree sent Santana Clark across the plate in the bottom of the inning on a single to notch the game at 8-8. In the bottom fo the seventh, Clark came up with clutch bunt for the game-winner, with Isabelle Santos scoring for the 9-8 victory. Jessy Aston pitched five innings with two strikeouts. Katelyn Makemson pitched two innings in relief, giving up a hit with two strikeouts. At the plate, Savannah Neely went 2 for 3 with a two-run homerun, Carlie Brunham was 2 for 4, both doubles, with two RBIs and a run scored, Brynn Repicky went 2 for 4 with an inside the park homerun, a double and an RBI and Clark was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Clark pitched three and two-thirds innings in Game 2, giving up three earned runs with two strikeouts. Aston pitched one and two-thirds innings with a strikeout and Makemson pitched one and two-thirds innings, giving up a hit with a strikeout. Offensively, Neely went 2 for 2 with a homerun and three RBIs, Burnham was 2 for 4, both doubles again, with an RBI and two runs scored and Tyree went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
