The Bevill State Bears went an even 1-1 in Saturday’s series with the Shelton State Bucs in Tuscaloosa, losing Game 1 9-4, then coming back from a six-run deficit in the third inning to win Game 2, 18-7.
Jessy Aston pitched four innings, giving up five hits with three earned runs and a strikeout. Kyla Edmondson pitched one and one third innings, giving up two hits and two earned runs and Emma Black two-thirds innings, giving up a hit. At the plate, Carlie Burnham was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, Savannah Neely went 2 for 3 with an RBI, Katie Puckett hit a triple with an RBI and Skylar Black had a double.
Down 6-0 going into the top of the third inning, the Bears plated four runs in the third and fifth innings, along with a score in the sixth and nine runs in the seventh, allowing just one run in the bottom of the fourth to win 18-7. Santana Clark pitched three innings, allowing two hits, no earned runs, with two walks and a strikeout. Emma Black pitched two and two-thirds innings, giving up four hits, three earned runs with two strikeouts. Edmondson gave up hits with four earned runs and a strikeout in one and one-thirds innings. Offensively, AK Tyree went 4 for 5 with three doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored, Skylar Black was 3 for 4 with a double and two runs scored, Isabelle Santos went 2 for 5 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI, Addison Rose was 2 for 4 with a homerun and three RBIs, Rachel Whitmer went 2 for 3 with a run scored, Katie Puckett was 2 for 5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs and Clark went 2 for 6 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. For the game, Bevill State recorded 21 hits. For the Bucs, Curry’s Marissa Lawson went 2 for 3 with a homerun and two runs scored.
