Facing a 21-point halftime deficit against the Minor Tigers on Friday night, the Jasper Vikings were unable to clinch victory in a comeback effort in a 54-44 loss at Ki-Ro Gambrell Stadium.
Spencer Rosenfeld led the Jasper offense with 295 all-purpose yards and three total touchdowns, throwing for 173 yards on 12 of 28 passes, running for 65 yards on nine carries with two touchdowns and catching a 57-yard pass for a score. Treyvon Stewart led the rushers with 69 yards on 10 carries with a touchdown. Cory Shepard was the Vikings’ receiving leader with three catches for 83 yards.
Landon Castillo led the Jasper defense with 10 tackles.
Jasper led 14-7 after the first quarter, with Rosenfeld scoring on a 44-yard run and Jody Hester taking the ball in from a yard-out.
Minor dominated the second quarter with 28 unanswered points to take command 35-14 at the half.
The Vikings opened the third quarter scoring with a five-yard run by Hester to draw within two touchdowns, 35-21.
Minor answered with an 83-yard score go ahead by three touchdowns once again, 42-21.
A bad snap by the Tigers went out of the back of the endzone, resulting in a safety and cutting the lead to 42-23.
Capitalizing on good field position following the kickoff, the Vikings drove 42 yards, ending with a one-yard touchdown run by Rosenfeld, pulling Jasper within 12, 42-30.
Minor immediately responded with a 60-yard scoring drive to remain in control, 48-30.
In the fourth quarter, Jasper went into the playbook for the halfback pass for its next score, with Jaden Caldwell finding Rosenfeld on a 57-yard touchdown strike, reducing the Tigers’ scoring edge to 11, 48-37.
Each team scored a final touchdown, with Stewart scoring on a 13-yard run, as Jasper fell 54-44.
The Vikings travel to Birmingham next week to face Jackson-Olin.
