The Jasper Vikings opened the 2021 season with a quality win over reigning Class 2A state champion Mars Hill Bible, 35-6, at Ki-Ro Gambrell Field on Friday night.
The Vikings held the edge in total yards, 338-213, led by Spencer Rosenfeld’s good performance at quarterback. Rosenfeld completed 10 of 17 passes for 271 yards with two touchdowns, adding another score on the ground. Kevon Samuel had a sensational night at receiver, catching six passes for 213 yards with a touchdown.
Jasper opened the scoring in the first quarter with a two-yard run by Rosefeld for a 7-0 lead. The Vikings scored two touchdowns in the second quarter, a one-yard run by Treyvon Stewart, followed by a 10-yard run by Jaden Caldwell to stay ahead 21-0 at the half.
An 83-yard touchdown strike from Rosenfeld to Samuels put the Vikings further ahead in the third quarter, 28-0.
After a Mars Hill score cut the lead to 28-6 to end the third quarter, Jasper scored the final touchdown of the contest in the fourth quarter on a 19-yard pass from Rosenfeld to Caldwell for the 35-6 final.
Jasper (1-0) battles archrival Cullman (1-0) next Friday night.
