BEVILL STATE DONATES HISTORIC WALKER HALL TO JASPER CITY SCHOOLS

SHARE NOW
Jasper, AL – At the Wednesday, September 11, 2024, meeting of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, a vote was held to donate Walker Hall, located on the Bevill State Community College Jasper Campus, to Jasper City Schools. The property, valued at just over $3 million, has been unoccupied for the past two years.
Walker Hall, a historic structure, has long stood as a symbol of education and community in Jasper. Though unused in recent years, its importance as a valuable building for public service is clear. The building’s vacancy followed the consolidation of all on-campus classes into the more modern Wade Building, which offers enhanced resources to meet the needs of today’s students.
Dr. Joel Hagood, President of Bevill State Community College, expressed his appreciation for the enduring partnership with Jasper City Schools and the wider community. “We are pleased to see Walker Hall entrusted to Jasper City Schools, a partner with a shared commitment to serving this community. While the future use of this building is still being considered, the rotunda would provide a magnificent setting for public or community meetings, allowing this historic landmark to continue serving the people of Jasper in new and meaningful ways.”
Dr. Ann Jackson, Superintendent of Jasper City Schools, expressed her gratitude, stating: “We are deeply thankful to Dr. Hagood and Bevill State Community College for the generous donation of Walker Hall to Jasper City Schools. While we are still determining the best use for the building—whether it will serve as administrative offices or provide essential student services—we are confident it will greatly benefit our district and contribute to the success of our students.
This donation highlights the strong partnership between BSCC and Jasper City Schools, reinforcing our shared commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and supporting the needs of our community.
On behalf of Jasper City Schools, I extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Hagood and the Alabama Community College System for this valuable contribution. We are excited about the potential this building holds for the future of our district and look forward to continuing our collaboration.”
Bevill State Community College looks forward to continuing its strong relationship with Jasper City Schools and contributing to the community’s growth and educational success.
