From Bevill State Athletics
SUMITON, AL – Bevill State Community College (BSCC) is excited to announce the appointment of Chris Harris as the new Head Coach of the Women’s Softball Team. Harris has an overall record of 301-137 in nine seasons as a head softball coach at Parrish High School and Huntsville High School. He made the state playoffs all nine seasons with five Area Championships during those years. The Bevill State Softball Program is located on the College’s Sumiton Campus.
Coach Harris was voted by the Daily Mountain Eagle as Softball Coach of the Year twice in 2009 and 2013. He was also named the Huntsville City Coach of the Year in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Harris was named the 2013 1A Coach of the Year while winning a State Championship at Parrish High School. He has coached four Bryant-Jordan Scholarship winners in his nine years and seventeen of his players signed college scholarships to play softball.
Bevill State Athletic Director, Max Weaver, stated, “I believe that in Coach Harris we have found a Head Coach who is very committed to our softball team and BSCC’s vision of the student-athlete. I look forward to an enjoyable season of Lady Bears Softball under his leadership.”
Coach Harris said of the appointment, “I am very excited to be the Head Coach of the Lady Bears Softball Team”, said Harris, “This has been on my ‘bucket-list’ for a while and to receive this opportunity now from Bevill State is a dream come true for me! Go Bears!”
