Matt Woods and Dr. Dennis Willingham emerged victorious on Tuesday night, carrying enough votes to negate the need of a runoff in their respective primary races.
Woods, who ran for Rep. Connie Rowe’s seat after Rowe did not seek re-election, garnered 5,223 votes in the Alabama House District 13 race for 55.39 percent, with Charlie Waits at 1,336 votes (14.17 percent), Greg Barnes at 1,080 votes (11.45 percent), Keith Davis at 976 votes (10.35 percent) and Matt Dozier at 814 votes (8.63 percent).
Willingham, who was unanimously approved by the Walker County Board of Education and has served as superintendent since December 2020, earned 5,596 for 54.58 percent to be elected to the seat. Chris McCullar had 2,843 votes (27.73 percent), Thomas Kyzer had 942 votes (9.19 percent) and Rhonda Davidson had 871 votes (8.5 percent).
Results for the House District 14 race for Walker County only were Tim Wadsworth, the incumbent, 1,530 votes (45.96 percent), Tom Fredericks, 1,054 votes (31.66 percent) and Cory Franks, 745 votes (22.38 percent).
The results are from 46 of the 47 ballot boxes in Walker County.
