Bevill State Community College will be hosting a Walker County Dual Enrollment Parent Meeting on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. This informational meeting will be held on the Bevill State Jasper Campus in Rowland Auditorium (1411 Indiana Avenue, Jasper, AL 35501). This meeting is open to all students and parents from the Walker County and Jasper City school systems that are interested in learning more about available Dual Enrollment programs and possible funding/scholarship opportunities.
“With so many financial opportunities for dual enrollment available to students in both the Walker County and Jasper City school systems, we wanted to provide parents and high school students with an opportunity to learn more about dual enrollment,” stated Dr. Joel Hagood, President of Bevill State Community College. “The Career Technical Dual Enrollment Scholarship that the College has traditionally offered has now expanded to include STEM coursework. Also, through the Walker Area Community Foundation, the Don Drummond Family Fund has provided $100,000 this year for CTE Dual Enrollment in Walker County, specifically in Machine Tool Technology and Welding. Also, Dr. Willingham has set aside $700,000 for students in the Walker County high schools for dual enrollment tuition and books/supplies. These funds can assist eligible students in taking academic or CTE dual enrollment classes.”
This program will be primarily a question and answer format, allowing parents to address their inquiries to a panel consisting of Sarah Allred, Admissions Recruiter for BSCC; Dr. Dennis Willingham, Superintendent of the Walker County Board of Education; Dr. Ann Jackson, Superintendent of the Jasper City Schools; Max Weaver, BSCC Dean of Student Success; Maurice Ingle, BSCC Director of Career Technical Education; Dr. Reitha Cabaniss, BSCC Director of Health Sciences; and Doug Hartley, BSCC Director of Financial Aid.
The purpose of Dual Enrollment at Bevill State Community College is to provide an opportunity for qualified high school students to enhance their education by enrolling early in college courses. Students are able to experience college-level courses, explore career options, and shorten the time required to complete a college degree by having the opportunity to earn high school and college credit simultaneously. Students in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades that meet GPA and dual enrollment criteria are eligible to participate.
