JASPER, AL – Bevill State Community College Division of Workforce Solutions is proud to announce a collaboration with The Dannon Project to provide non-credit welding training and certification testing to project participants seeking an in-demand career path. Welding has been identified as a Region 4 Demand Occupation by the Alabama Department of Labor, with Region 4 including the greater Birmingham area.
Beginning February 7, 2022, participants in The Dannon Project may enroll for welding training to include SMAW, MIG, and Flux Core, along with safety and a host of fundamentals to ensure they are in a position to secure employment and succeed in the workforce. Two hundred and twenty-four hours of education and hands-on training will take place over 14 weeks in Bevill State’s Workforce Solutions Rapid Training Center. The state-of-the-art facility opened in October 2019 and was funded through a $1.5 million grant awarded by the Appalachian Regional Commission to provide industry-recognized credentials for high-quality, in-demand jobs.

Bevill State Community College Division of Workforce Solutions provides a comprehensive approach to workforce education, training, and customized business and industry solutions from five locations located in three workforce regions. Welding has been part of the college catalog since a 1992 merger that founded Bevill State Community College. As an in-demand workforce skill, the Division of Workforce Solutions includes non-credit welding training for those in need of an alternative to credit-based instruction.
“Bevill State Community College continues to take great strides to engage and connect with the communities we serve. This partnership with The Dannon Project is a wonderful opportunity to do just that. Assisting these program participants in obtaining a certification in a high-demand, high-wage field like welding can have far-reaching positive implications for not only that individual, but the community as a whole,” stated Dr. Joel Hagood, President of Bevill State.

“Bevill State has a history of working with community organizations to identify and develop solutions to their training needs. We are excited about the opportunity to team with The Dannon Project. Executive Director Kerri Pruitt and her team are changing lives by working to end generational poverty and guide individuals toward positive change through education and opportunity,” said Al Moore, Bevill State’s Dean of Workforce Solutions and Economic Development.

The Dannon Project is a Birmingham non-profit, established with a mission to maximize use of private charitable resources and public funding to support the development of vibrant communities and positive lifestyles and combat the many negative impacts of generational poverty.

“We are so proud and thankful to be teaming up with Bevill state in this venture. It gives our participants a great opportunity to learn a skill that they so eagerly want to do. There is nothing greater than partnerships to change the world. And this partnership will definitely not only change the workforce in Alabama and across the nation, but it will also change lives for the better. You couldn’t ask for a nicer gentleman than Al Moore and his staff for doing this partnership with us and we look forward to showing the world that this is the way to go in order to change lives.” said Jeh Jeh Pruitt WBRC, Co-Founder of The Dannon Project.
