Wide receivers: Options aplenty returning for Dora

SHARE NOW

Three wideouts for the Bulldogs made a big splash in 2022 by providing consistent, stable targets for Dora quarterbacks to throw to.

Rising seniors Josh Williams, Garrett Hogland and Kori Pryor during the regular season combined for over 1,200 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. All three are back, and quarterback Sean Pryor has to be happy knowing his experienced wideouts are back for one last year.

The wide receiver position may have lost a lot of faces in the WJLX coverage area due to graduation after least season, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t some mean talent back for 2023.

Logan Madison, Lynn, Sr.
Madison was the Bears’ top receiver and third overall in receiving yards in the WJLX broadcast area, catching 54 passes for 853 yards with nine touchdowns at the conclusion of his junior year campaign. Quarterback Cale Tittle is sure to look to him streaking down the sideline this fall, but also keep your eye on Cole Kelly and Austin Dodd, both whom could develop quickly.

Micah Pledger, Jasper, Soph
Pledger showed that he’s much more than just a runningback in 2022, as he caught 15 passes for 356 yards with a touchdown during the regular season. With the departure of Cory Shepherd and Bubba Odom to graduation, it will be interesting to see how much Pledger is targeted in 2023 and how quickly other targets for the Vikings emerge.

Braedon Lugo, Cordova, Sr
Jalen Armistad may have graduated, but that doesn’t mean the receiving cupboard is bare for the Blue Devils. Lugo caught 21 passes for 374 yards in 2022 with four touchdowns and should have his number called much more often. Kaden Williams also had a good season in 2022, catching 25 passes for 355 yards with six touchdowns – both will be needed for their experience for whomever starts at quarterback for Cordova.

Bridger Upton, Junior and Rick Johnson, Senior, Oakman
Wildcats quarterback Trace Cagle has his two top pass catchers back for 2023 to help Oakman take its rebuilding efforts to the next level. Upton hauled in 24 passes for 292 yards with a touchdown, while Johnson totaled 251 yards on 17 catches with two touchdowns.
