Jasper head coach Philip Bailey noted on Thursday that enthusiasm is at a high with the Vikings beginning their first week of official preseason practice.
After two days of state-mandated acclimation time with just helmets on, the Vikings spent Wednesday and Thursday in helmets and shoulder pads and finish the week out fully equipped.
“It was really good to hear the pads popping, it feels like football again,” Bailey said. “There’s only so much you can do in helmets only, like operational things and alignment, and there’s value to that; but you’re not really playing football until you put some pads on.”
Other notes from Bailey’s Week 1 practice update:
– With numerous players competing for positions on the depth chart, Bailey has been pleased with the effort he’s seen from his players to start the preseason. “The energy was really good on Wednesday, and today(Thursday) they’re showing a lot of it in the pre-practice meetings, which hopefully will be a trend we’ll see continue.”
