Williams: Dora making great strides during preseason

SHARE NOW

With the preseason winding down and just over two weeks until the season opener against the Cordova Blue Devils looming, Dora Bulldogs head coach Chavis Williams expressed satisfaction with the way his team has worked throughout the summer — adding the excitement and enthusiasm his players have displayed during workouts and practices has been consistent.

“It’s been nothing but excitement — we’ve got guys who have been really trying to learn how we expect them to practice and we had leaders who stepped up in the first three days of camp, which as a coaching staff you love to see,” Williams said. “We’ve been very pleased with the progress so far. I really applaud our group of seniors, as they have lead by example and served as great mentors for our younger players.”

Other notes from Wednesday’s preseason brief:

— Many of the Bulldogs’ younger players have shown improvement and a strong work ethic this summer, Williams reported. Among those cited were Josh Williams, Garrett Hogland, Mekhi Satterfield and Cole Chapman. “They have all done a really good job and taken direction extremely well.”

— Dora will hold “Meet the Bulldogs” on Friday night, Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. at Horace Roberts Stadium. Williams encourages the community, along with fans and supporters to come out to see the 2021 Dora Bulldogs, Bulldog cheerleaders and the Dora band. “The members of our program, from our team and coaching staff, to our cheerleaders and band are very proud to represent our community and we’d like to share time with them. It’s our way to get everyone into football mode, sit back and enjoy fellowship with each other — we hope everyone will come out and enjoy it.”
