King Crimson announces 2021 US summer trek called the “Music Is Our Friend” tour

King Crimson has unveiled dates for a 2021 U.S. summer tour dubbed the “Music Is Our Friend” trek, that will kick off July 22 in Clearwater, Florida, and is plotted out through a September 11 concert in Washington, D.C.

The outing features a total of 28 confirmed dates. The California Guitar Trio will be the support act at the beginning of the tour, while The Zappa Band will serve as the opening act for most of the shows, starting with an August 5 concert in Concord, California.

The trek marks the veteran prog-rock band’s return to the road after they were sidelined in 2020 by the COVID-19 pandemic.

King Crimson currently features a seven-man lineup led by founding guitarist Robert Fripp, longtime bassist Tony Levin, multi-instrumentalist Mel Collins, singer/guitarist/flute player Jakko Jakszyk, and three drummers — Pat Mastelotto, Gavin Harrison and Jeremy Stacey.

Reflecting on the band’s new tour, Fripp writes, whimsically, “The Crimson Beast of Terror has woken from its enforced slumbering and is venturing out to stomp flat the psyches of innocents not yet experienced in the hammering onslaught of King Crimson’s uncompromising pounding…before turning on a beat to jellify hearts with gut-wrenching passion and soul-squeezing epic unfoldings…”
